If you’re getting divorced in California while raising small children, you probably don’t have much, if any, free time to squander. You may not even have time to work, take care of yourself, or research critical questions on the internet. What are some “fixes” that can give you back free time or at least prevent you from wasting the time you do have? Here are some ideas to “get time back” and make better use of your time:
Outsource and hire
Consider hiring a nanny to help you with childcare tasks and outsourcing key elements of your life (e.g. doing laundry, making meals, etc.). This advice may seem counterintuitive. After all, if you hire someone to do a job for you, you need to pay for the services, and then you need to spend even more time at work. But consider the math! If you earn $50/hour at your job, and you hire someone to do critical childcare or work around the house for $20/hour, you can afford 5 hours of assistance for just two hours of your work. In other words, you get three hours of your time back “free” from the exchange.
Get rid of inefficient activities.
Cut down on TV watching, internet surfing and doing other “mindless” task. But don’t eliminate mindless actions altogether! Science suggests that some amount of mindless activity can have surprisingly beneficial effects.
Get help thinking through solutions.
