In addition to documenting what’s going on in your life and marriage — and researching California divorce attorneys ASAP — you also may need to make adjustments to your life and business, now that you have moved out of your house into a hotel.

First and foremost, you need to manage yourself. Marital fights and separation can wreak havoc on people, health wise, emotionally, and psychologically. It’s easy to devolve into bad habits — staying inside, playing video games all day, eating bad food, not talking to people, etc. Consciously resist urges to engage in self-destructive behavior. Here are some powerful tips to keep you focused on health and equanimity:

  • Eat nutritious food. Do not gorge on high sugar, high flour foods. Instead, nourish yourself with healthy fats, proteins, vegetables, and fruit. Junk food may feel enjoyable because of its effect on your dopamine level, but it ultimately will cause more harm than good;
  • Take time to breathe and introspect at least once a day. Sit and watch your breath for 10 or 15 minutes at a time. Try to stay in the present moment. If thoughts come up that aren’t comfortable, recognize them, but don’t resist them. As Yogananda once wrote “live simply and take life more easily… be alone once in a while, and remain more in silence.”
  • Get some healthy amount of time in the sun, and spend time in the company of other people. You don’t need to disclose what’s going on with your divorce, but just being around people can help you process what you have been through and make more intelligent decisions.
